We all need a break sometimes, right? I know I do. Whether I’m going through a terrible breakup, sitting by the phone waiting to find out about a friend in the hospital, or just overcome with so much anxiety I don’t want to get out of bed, depression will find it’s way back to me. What can you do to fight back?
For me, the answer is music! Did you know that music is scientifically proven to reduce stress and help us effectively manage or redirect our emotions? It’s true.
According to PsychCentral, “When people are very stressed, there is a tendency to avoid actively listening to music. Perhaps it feels like a waste of time, not helping to achieve anything. But as we know, productivity increases when stress is reduced, so this is another area where you can gain vast rewards. It just takes a small effort to begin with.”
With that in mind, I’ve compiled twenty of my favorite pop tracks that help me beat the blues and take me to my happy place. I encourage you to give these songs a go, make a list of each song that lifts you up or helps you feel empowered, and add your own favorite songs to your list so you have a helpful depression-fighting resource to get you moving when negative feelings return again.
