Carly Rae Jepsen’s Gimmie Love Tour is more than just a revisit to 2012’s smash hit “Call Me Maybe,” in fact, it’s much more than that. With her third studio album EMOTION boasting critical acclaim, Jepsen proves to be more than just a one hit wonder.
As soon as the triumphant intro of “Run Away With Me” blasted from the speakers and the lights dimmed for Carly Rae’s entrance, the crowd went wild. Wearing a vibrant yellow suit, Jepsen had full control of the stage albeit a small one.
Before the show, Jepsen answered a few questions and said “All That” was her favorite song to perform on the tour, and described the change of pace when playing it. About a half hour and a few bangers later, I witness the song myself and was definitely feeling the vibe she was describing! “All That” has a noticeably different sound than other EMOTION highlights such as “I Really Like You,” “Gimmie Love,” and “Boy Problems.” Some say, a good slow song is the mark of a great tour and “All That” fits the role.
Her set list includes mainly tracks from her latest LP, but welcomed a few throwbacks like “This Kiss,” “Getting Over You” and by special request, an acoustic “Curiosity.” Being in the venue, you would think each song was as big of a hit as “Call Me Maybe” was from the excitement each performance brought. Fans knew the words inside and out from every song in Carly Rae’s arsenal.
Carly made the show fun with her fan interactions. If you could reach the stage, she will probably hold your hand. For “This Kiss,” she actually jumped off the stage and sang with anybody who knew the song and with “Call Me Maybe,” she even handed off the mic. With intimate venues and Carly’s best record yet as its focal point, the Gimmie Love Tour is a dream come true for Jepsen fans!
