Lady Gaga to star in Bradley Cooper-directed ‘A Star Is Born’ remake

Lady Gaga will begin production on a remake of the 1937 film A Star Is Born early next year with director Bradley Cooper.

The announcement comes exclusively from Deadline who notes that the film marks both Lady Gaga’s first starring role in a feature and Cooper’s directing debut. Fans will also be pleased to hear that Gaga will compose and perform new music for the film.

In A Star Is Born, a young woman comes to Hollywood with dreams of stardom but can only achieve those dreams with the help of an alcoholic whose best days are behind him. Warner Bros. first pitched the remake five years ago with plans for Clint Eastwood to direct and Beyoncé to star as Esther in the role made iconic by Barbra Streisand.

“For those of us lucky enough to watch him work as an actor and producer, it has been clear that Bradley would make this transition to director,” said Warner Bros president of Creative Development and WW Production Greg Silverman.

“We are honored that he is doing it, here, at his home—Warner Bros.—and with Lady Gaga as a collaborator and co-star. The world is in for a treat as these great artists craft an all new vision of A Star is Born.”

Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper were spotted eating dinner together in Los Angeles earlier this year. The meet-up was likely planned to discuss details of the film.
