Update: Katy Perry Confirmed as First ‘American Idol’ Judge

Katy Perry sort-of confirmed on The Ellen Show on Tuesday that she will indeed be judging on the new season of American Idol on ABC. By confirm, we of course mean that she stumbled around the question, probably to avoid breaking contracts.

See for yourself below.

Original Story

Katy Perry is ABC’s first pick to join the new season of American Idol as a judge after Kelly Clarkson bailed, reports TMZ.

According to the website’s inside sources, Katy Perry is willing to schedule upcoming tour dates around the show’s schedule if the price is right. Kelly Clarkson was expected to take the offer of an American Idol promotion but ABC wouldn’t meet her pay requirements.

There couldn’t be a better time for Katy Perry to take this offer. After all, a new era (album cycle) has begun, and she needs to promote her new music as much as possible. Her new single “Bon Appètit” didn’t meet radio expectations, and the music video has been called weird as Hell and upsetting. American Idol returns on a new network (ABC, previously FOX) this Fall, and you can catch Kelly Clarkson’s time to shine as an official judge on NBC’s The Voice later this year. Like us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter for updates.
