Miley Cyrus performed a new song with Wayne Coyne from the Flaming Lips at the Adult Swim upfronts at New York City’s Terminal 5 on Wednesday night.
The new song, titled “Tiger Dreams,” is most likely a cut from their upcoming collaborative project. Miley announced the track with a joke about Wayne wanting to call the song “Tiger.”
“As you can imagine, Wayne doesn’t listen much to Katy Perry,” she said, “I had to tell him that she already has a song called ‘Tiger’ and that we can’t do that. So this is ‘Tiger.'” (Katy doesn’t have a song called “Tiger,” but the joke was most likely a reference to Katy’s track “Roar.”)
As the psychedelic pop track began, Miley got the crowd excited by reminding them again that she was singing a NEW MILEY CYRUS TRACK!
“No one’s ever heard this s–t, unless you’ve been at my garage, so f—in’ get excited!” she yelled to the crowd.
“Tiger Dreams” sounded just about as trippy as the outfit Miley was wearing, which happened to be white leggings, long purple gloves, butterfly wings and pasties along with silver eye makeup.
“And we always end up singing the same song / They remind us of the coolest s–t in the world / But they also remind us we are dying / So that’s why we want to sing them even more,” Miley sang on the track.
Miley’s set went on to include covers of notable classics like Johnny Cash’s “A Boy Named Sue” and Paul Simon’s “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover,” to Led Zeppelin’s “Babe I’m Gonna Leave You” and Dido’s “No Freedom.” She also sang a few of her own tracks including “4×4”, “SMS (Bangerz),” “We Can’t Stop,” and “Love Money Party”, all from her 2013 album, Bangerz.
Cyrus is set to partner with the Flaming Lips for an upcoming seven-track album which has not yet been given a release date.
“She does the pop thing so great, so it still feels pop, but a slightly wiser, sadder, more true version,” Coyne said about their new material. “Some of it reminds me of Pink Floyd and Portishead.”Note: Populove is currently undergoing site maintenance following a hiatus.
