Not much has been said of MTV’s reported reboot of the hit music show TRL since news broke in April, but the new TRL (MTV Live) is still in the works and will premiere this Fall according to receipts from an eager fan at GagaDaily.com.
According to our source, the new Total Request Live program will air at 5 p.m. on weekdays beginning this September. Each episode will be only an hour long despite previous reports of three-to-four hours, and the company may choose to brand the program as TRL instead of the earlier decided name MTV Live.
Despite TRL’s “L” standing for “Live,” the new show is already filming at the original Times Square set, and Viacom is actively looking for audience members. See the casting call and photos below. (Sidenote: the original Total Request Live was often pre-recorded, too).

Younger pop music fans may not remember the live music show, but fans from the ’90s and early 2000s will never forget Carson Daly as the original host or all of the live surprises from stars like Britney Spears, Mariah Carey, or the Backstreet Boys. The new show will likely feature many live interviews, surprises for the audience, and a top 10 music video countdown or something similar.
We’re still waiting on more information before we get too excited, like who will MTV pick to fill Daly’s shoes as host? Leave a comment below if you have an idea who should fill the role, or watch below for some of the best moments from TRL.Published in
