Lady Gaga and fiancé Taylor Kinney took a dip in ice-cold Lake Michigan on Sunday as part of Chicago Polar Plunge, an annual event where participants raise money for Special Olympics Chicago before meeting in the freezing Great Lakes.
This year, participants were required to raise a minimum of $175 before Sunday’s event. According to the Chicago Tribune, this year more than 4,500 participants together raised $1.1 million, more than any year prior.
“Feels so good to do things for a good cause like the Special Olympics. It’s great (to) donate money, but also great to donate a gesture of love for those who deserve to be showered with it,” Lady Gaga said on Instagram after the event.
Gaga and her Chicago Fire star, soon-to-be hubby were joined by four of Kinney’s co-stars, actor Vince Vaughn and other participants. The Tribune notes that Gaga’s arrival was followed by whispers of “Is that really her?”
Check out photos from the event below. You’ll notice that Gaga’s wig looks tortured by Lake Michigan’s icy waters.
“My weave froze!!” Gaga posted. “Taylor gave me his hat; I thought my wig was gonna freeze into and become one with the lake.”
