Regex Tutorial

Regex Tutorial

In this tutorial I will be going over what a specific regex type is in coding, its applications and why it is helpful.

A regex, which is short for regular expression, is a character sequence that defines a specific search pattern. When included in code or search algorithms, regular expressions can be used to find specific characters within a string, or replace a character or sequence of characters within a string. Often used for validation inputs.

The Regex we will be going over in this tutorial sets the character sequence for a valid email input from a user. An example of this is given in the following line of code /^([a-z0-9_\.-]+)@([\da-z\.-]+)\.([a-z\.]{2,6})$/" . I will break down the individual components of what is going on throughout this tutorial.
