In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ryan Murphy (American Horror Story, Glee) revealed how he managed to get pop sensation Ariana Grande and reborn hunk Nick Jonas to sing onto his new series, Scream Queens.
Scream Queens, coming this fall to FOX, is about a college sorority that is being stalked by a murderer. Murphy, just off a six-year run with Glee and currently in pre-production on American Horror Story: Hotel starring Lady Gaga, calls the show “Heathers meets Friday the 13th.”
The new FOX comedy horror is sure to be a huge hit for the network. The all-star cast for the show’s first season includes Ariana Grande, Nick Jonas, Emma Roberts, Jamie Lee Curtis, Lea Michele, Keke Palmer, Oliver Hudson, and Abigail Breslin.
“I met her and she had been a big fan of American Horror Story,” Murphy tells EW about casting Ariana Grande. “I pitched her the show, which she loved. We have to carve out amounts of time for her, but I love her. She’s great and funny, and she loves the genre of it. It’s the same thing with Nick Jonas. We work around their schedules.”
Ariana Grande plays one of the sorority president’s “henchwomen,” while “Jealous” crooner Nick Jonas stars as a student in a golfing fraternity.
“Nick and Glen Powell play members of a golfing fraternity called the Dollar Scholars. They are preppy monsters and they are white entitled kids who are on golfing scholarships and are the most popular guys on the campus,” Murphy said. “The thing I will say about the Nick character is he’s not who he seems to be. Nick has a dark side, which comes out in the episodes.”
While talking about Nick Jonas, Murphy brings up that the show has lots of sex, which means we’ll hopefully get to see a lot of this:
