Sia releases new single ‘Alive!” Listen to it here!

Sia just released the first single from her upcoming album, This Is Acting. “Alive” was originally written for Adele, who co-wrote on the track.

The track works well with the theme of the LP, which Sia says stems from songs that weren’t really meant for her, hence the name.

She spoke previously in an interview, “I’m calling it This Is Acting because they are songs I was writing for other people, so I didn’t go into it thinking, ‘This is something I would say,’” she said. “It’s more like play-acting. It’s fun.”

“Alive” in particular was decided last minute to not be used for Adele’s record and returned to Sia’s grasp. The “Elastic Heart” singer promises the track still holds Adele’s presence!

“It’s about [Adele’s] life, so I now sing a song from her perspective,” Sia told RTV Slovenija.

In the rightfully named survival track, Sia belts, “I’m still breathing/ I’m still breathing/ I’m still breathing/ I’m still breathing/ I’m alive/ I’m alive/ I’m alive/ I’m alive.”

Sia - "Alive"

As we can expect from any Sia-penned track, it’s both powerful and thoughtfully worded.  “I was born in a thunderstorm/ I grew up over night/ I played alone/ I played on my own/ I survived,”  she sings in the opening verse over climactic synths and progressing piano chords.

Earlier this month, the release for “Alive” was spoiled by Editor In Chief Penny Martin.

This Is Acting will follow the critically acclaimed 1000 Forms Of Fear released by Sia last year. Will the different approach of album writing work for her as well as the brutal honesty of her previous records? Listen to “Alive” above and let us know what you think!
