When Zayn decided to leave One Direction, Simon Cowell was not too happy about it. The man who first brought the boys of 1D together revealed to James Corden on The Late Late Show that he was “about to jump off a cliff” when he heard the news.
He told the host, “I was just about to jump off a cliff. I was trying to say to him he should stay around a bit longer. But something inside him said he’d had enough.”
Cowell originally tried to talk Zayn into staying with the band. But, he ultimately decided it would be best for Zayn if he left.
“I saw him in person as well — but once someone has made their mind up they are going to go,” Cowell said. “At the same time, I don’t want to push him too much because he’s 22, and I could see he was a bit stressed and needed some time off.”
Simon made sure Harry, Louis, Niall, and Liam were all okay about losing their bandmate.
“I dealt with it, then I made sure the guys were OK because they were shocked as well. So I had to respect his decision. For the boys it was interesting because they were in the middle of these live shows at the time,” Simon explained to Corden.
Not to worry though, Mr. Cowell has a lot of hopes for the future of One Direction. In fact, he believes the boys will deliver the “best record they have ever made.”Note: Populove is currently undergoing site maintenance following a hiatus.
