VMAs: P!nk to Receive Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award

MTV revealed on Tuesday that this year’s recipient of the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the VMAs will be none other than P!nk. The star announced a new album last week, so the timing couldn’t be better!

Every year at the Video Music Awards, the prestigious award is given to an artist who has significantly influenced MTV’s culture. Pink was selected “for her trailblazing impact on music, pop culture, fashion and philanthropy,” according to a statement from MTV.

Previous recipients include David Bowie, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Rihanna, Guns N’ Roses, Beyoncé, Madonna, and Kanye West — to name a few.

This year’s MTV VMAs will be hosted by Katy Perry on Aug. 27, live from The Forum in Inglewood, CA. P!nk will perform her single “What About Us” (listen below), along other performances by stars like Miley Cyrus, Kendrick Lamar, Ed Sheeran, Fifth Harmony, the Weeknd, and Shawn Mendes.

MTV will also premiere P!nk’s new music video for “What About Us” tomorrow (Wednesday, Aug. 16).
