It was announced last week that One Direction member Zayn Malik would be taking a break from the “On The Road Again” tour due to stress. Today news breaks that Malik is leaving the boy band.
“My life with One Direction has been more than I could ever have imagined. But, after five years, I feel like it is now the right time for me to leave the band,” Malik said in a statement via the band’s Facebook page. “I’d like to apologize to the fans if I’ve let anyone down, but I have to do what feels right in my heart. I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight.”
Reports surfaced earlier this month that bandmate Harry Styles was considering leaving the group.
The “On The Road Again” tour continues without Zayn. On the show’s first night without the 22-year-old, band members were introduced simply by their names rather than as One Direction to honor the absent member.
As for Zayn’s solos, the remaining band members took turns crooning through Zayn’s verses. Harry took his spot in “Little Things,” and Liam took the high notes in “You and I.”
