The Nun II looks to open between $31-$34 million
Just a quick update today. After a solid $3.1 million made in Thursday previews, The Nun II looks to fall in line with our Thursday predictions with what is looking like a low to mid $30 million domestic bow. Although not reaching the same heights as the 2018 original which saw a domestic debut of $53.8 million, this is still a solid debut that should have legs as the spooky season fast approaches.
Coming in second place is The Equalizer 3 Which is looking to ease a not so great mid 60% with an estimated $11-$12 million. That would be the worst week to week drop the franchise has seen, but with so many movies moving off the schedule due to the ongoing strikes, this one may see a longer runway than normal.
Third place will go to the Nia Vardalos directed My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 with what is looking like a sub $10 million opening. Obviously this is a franchise that has seen its brand diminish in the last twenty years in terms of its box office potential. It seems audiences may have cooled on the franchise as well as this third outing is garnering a B cinemascore as opposed to the second films A-.
Fourth place will go to the Hindu language Jawan with a $7-$8 million domestic bow. The film has garnered strong numbers since its release overseas where it netted $8.2 million in India on its opening day, the best opening day for a film ever in India. This one seems to have bigger appeal than normal Hindu language releases the generally have domestic debuts towards the bottom of the charts.
